Cal-Mag

More than a standard cal-mag. Ours carries kelp extract — a natural source of nitrogen, auxins, cytokinins and other phytohormones, plus micronutrients competitors leave out — which also assists chelation and pulls more of your feed into the plant instead of into the medium.

Calcium and magnesium deficiencies happen in any garden, but some media stack the odds against you. Coco coir in particular can lock out a share of the calcium and magnesium you feed. Calcium lengthens roots and builds cell walls; magnesium activates the enzymes behind nutrient absorption and is a literal component of chlorophyll. Short either one and photosynthesis, growth and flowering all pay for it.

How to run it

• As needed rather than as part of the regular schedule — during rapid vegetative growth, in transition, or at peak flowering.
• Soak coco coir and other soilless media with Cal-Mag before planting.
• Useful insurance when running another brand’s base that may not carry a full essential set. Emerald Harvest’s own 2-part and 3-part bases already do.
• Replaces any calcium-magnesium product.

In the bottle: dark brown to black, mildly viscous and slightly oily. Smells like salt water with a bit of beach funk. Shelf life 3 years or more.
